Division of Vocational Rehabilitation - State of Colorado

The DVR Application and Rehabilitation Process

From application to employment, DVR sees it through.

The rehabilitation process begins after an individual applies for services from DVR.

First, an application form is completed, and an intake interview is conducted to identify the individual's medical, social, financial, educational, and vocational experiences. This is when DVR gets to explore the applicant's skills, abilities, and interests - and to understand his or her specific vocational rehabilitation needs.

Once eligibility is established, the participant and the vocational rehabilitation counselor work together to develop an Individualized Plan for Employment (IPE). This plan describes the services that will be needed so that the individual can reach his or her employment goal. And because DVR is committed to making the best matches for employers and employees, each participant's program is individually tailored to meet needs on a case-by-case basis.

What's the outcome of this rehabilitation process? Ideally, we assist the candidate to find suitable employment in a career of their choice. Depending on the services needed, the rehabilitation process can last anywhere from a few months to several years.

Of course, our work doesn't end with placement. From the application to the employee's employment, their work is sure to win down the road. DVR provides a true partnership to both sides - bridging business and ability.
