Description: This presentation is intended for any audience and delivers information and basic common sense guidelines about how to interact with people with several different disabilities.

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Description: This presentation is intended for businesses, hiring managers and supervisors. It provides an introduction to and overview of the ADA and provides specific information related to the employment of individuals with disabilities.

Benefits of Hiring People with Disabilities
Description: This presentation is intended for employers, supervisors and hiring managers and offers information about a strong and diverse workforce you may not even know about. It demonstrates why it is good business to hire and retain qualified people with disabilities.

Accommodations
Description: This presentation is intended for employers, supervisors and coworkers and delivers information about what an accommodation is, the job accommodation process, how an accommodation is made, and the costs and the financial benefits to an employer for providing accommodations at the worksite.

Pick a Disability
Description: This group activity is conducted by a qualified facilitator and allows participants to explore some of their beliefs and misconceptions about people with disabilities.
Activity time: 45 minutes

 

Social Distance Exercise
Description: Participants complete a confidential written assessment of their perceived comfort level engaging in various activities with individuals with various kinds of disabilities. The assessment is followed up by group discussion.
Activity time: 20 minutes

Misconceptions & Realities about Disabilities
Description: This true/false and multiple choice worksheet allows participants to learn about some of the myths and misconceptions that exist regarding various disabilities, accommodations and situations. Discussion of correct responses is included.
Activity time: 30 minutes

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) & Accommodations Quiz
Description: Participants test their knowledge of ADA provision as they relate to employment, common accommodations and access. Correct answers are provided during group discussion.
Activity time: 20 minutes

Assistive Technology (AT) Shoe Box
Description: This is a hands-on group exercise that allows participants to learn about and use several low-cost and no-cost assistive technology products.
Activity time: 20 minutes

Encounter Panel
Description: This activity invites the audience to interact with several panelists who experience living and working with a disability on a daily basis. The panel is facilitated by a moderator and allows ample time for discussion and questions from the audience.
Activity time: 1 hour

Getting It Right
